COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Members of the Virginia men’s and women’s swimming teams concluded competition Saturday at Maryland’s Terrapin Invitational. Seven individuals won events on the final day while the men’s 400 freestyle relay team was also victorious.

Jonathan Buerger, Zach Kohl, Cody Brunette and David Wren teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:03.13, the final event of the meet. Teammate Tommy Inwood (1:40.02) took first-place honors in the 200 freestyle to lead a 1-2-3 finish for Virginia. Freddy Crawford (1:40.61) and Buerger (1:40.92) were second and third, respectively. Nick Montes de Oca was also victorious in the 200 breaststroke and Wren earned a win in the 100 backstroke.

Anais Menguy helped pace the women’s squad with a win in the 100 butterfly (56.41) and Hillary Petersen (4:19.57) claimed the 400 individual medley. The Cavaliers also recorded a pair of 1-2 performances as Jane Munro won the 100 backstroke (55.12) followed by teammate Meg Hutchinson (56.14) in second. Anna Dobben claimed the 50 freestyle (23.35) while Dana Nessler (23.49) placed second.

The Virginia women begin competition at the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Atlanta.
