Cavaliers Fall 63-44 to Boston College

CHARLOTTESVILLE-Junior guard Reggie Jackson scored a game-high 25 points, had five rebounds and four assists to lead Boston College to a 63-44 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Virginia at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday (Feb. 26).
Senior forward Corey Raji had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles and senior forward Joe Trapani scored 12 points.
Senior guard Mustapha Farrakhan and junior center Assane Sene each scored 10 points for Virginia. Freshman guard Joe Harris had a game-high and career-high 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers.
The victory improves Boston College’s overall record to 17-11 and the Eagles are now 7-7 in the ACC. The loss drops Virginia’s overall record to 14-14 and the Cavaliers are now 5-9 in the ACC.
Boston College outscored Virginia 26-4 in a span of 10:20 at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half to take a 47-32 lead with 11:30 left in the game. The Cavaliers led 28-21 with 2:20 left in the first half, but a three-point basket by freshman guard Gabe Moton with 1:50 remaining in the opening period started a 10-0 run to end the half for the Eagles. Jackson scored the last five points in the run as Boston College took a 31-28 halftime lead.
The Eagles then outscored Virginia 16-4 in the first 8:30 of the second half to open their 47-32 lead and take control of the game. Raji scored nine points during that stretch and Boston College scored 11 unanswered points to end the run. Virginia got no closer than 13 points the rest of the game.
Boston College shot 51.1 percent (24-47) from the field, including 39.1 percent (9-23) from three-point range, and 75.0 percent (6-8) from the free throw line in the game. The Eagles shot 57.1 percent (12-21) from the field in the second half and out-rebounded UVa 34-28 for the game.
Virginia shot 32.1 percent (17-53) from the field, including 19.0 percent (4-21) from three-point range, and 75.0 percent (6-8) from the free throw line in the game. The Cavaliers shot just 25.0 percent (6-24) from the field in the second half.
Virginia plays its final home game of the 2010-11 regular season on Tuesday (March 1) when the Cavaliers host NC State at John Paul Jones Arena. That game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be televised by the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks.
