CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia field hockey players Elly Buckley and Rachel Jennings were selected to the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, the league office recently announced.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Buckley, a freshman, was an All-ACC and first-team all-south region performer for Virginia. The Perth, Australia native scored 19 goals and contributed a team-best 11 assists – the most in program history by a freshman. Buckley also notched her first career hat trick after scoring four goals in an 8-0 victory over Radford and tallied three other multi-goal games during her rookie campaign. She was also named to the national all-rookie squad by womensfieldhockey.com.

Jennings, a native of Macungie, Pa., was honored on the academic team for the third time. The junior back was selected as a first-team all-south region selection and was named to the NCAA all-tournament team. Jennings, a team co-captain, notched her first career goal and contributed two assists in 2010.

Virginia concluded the 2010 campaign with an 18-4 record and advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the second consecutive year.
