CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s basketball team finished the regular season in a tie for seventh place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings and by virtue of a tiebreaker have been awarded the No. 8 seed at the 2011 ACC Tournament. UVa (16-14, 5-9 ACC) will face ninth-seeded Wake Forest (14-16, 5-9 ACC) on Thursday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.

The game will be televised on the ACC’s Regional Sports Network (Comcast SportsNet in the Charlottesville area). A web broadcast will be available at TheACC.com.

In the regular-season meeting between the Cavaliers and Demon Deacons on Feb. 3 at John Paul Jones Arena, Virginia came away with a 73-46 victory.

Virginia has won three ACC Tournament titles (1990, 1992, 1993).

The winner of Thursday’s first round game will advance to play Friday (March 4) at 3 p.m., vs. top-seeded Duke.
