CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (14-12) opens Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend when it hosts Boston College (4-15) for a three-game series at The Park. The two teams will play a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday and conclude the series at 12 p.m. Sunday. Live statistics for all three games will be linked on VirginiaSports.com.

Virginia is coming off a 2-3 performance last weekend in its home tournament. UVa won its first two games, a 9-1 victory over Princeton and a 2-1 win over then-No. 25 Syracuse. Freshman Marcy Bowdren led the Cavaliers at the plate, hitting .500 on the weekend with three home runs and seven RBI.

On the season, three Virginia players are hitting above .300, including senior Alison Pittman (.319), freshman Stephanie Harris (.316) and sophomore Alex Skinkis (.301). Sophomore pitcher Melanie Mitchell will look to return to the circle this weekend as she leads the Cavaliers with 126 strikeouts in 105 2/3 innings of work this season.

Boston College is coming off a 0-4 weekend out west at the Nevada Classic in Reno, Nevada. The Eagles dropped contests to Florida International (11-7), Nevada (9-8) and two games to New Mexico (4-1 and 6-5).

BC is led by Brittany Wilkins, who is hitting .450 with nine doubles, nine home runs and 20 RBI on the year. Teammate Alana Dimaso (.328) also contributes eight doubles and 11 RBI. Four different pitchers have seen significant action in the circle for the Eagles, including Allison Gage (5.29 ERA, 0-6) and Nicole D’Argento (5.82 ERA, 3-1).

The series is tied 6-6 all-time between Virginia and Boston College. The Cavaliers swept the series last year in Boston, 13-1, 6-4, 4-2.
