Statesboro, GA – The 17th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team finished third at the Schenkel Invitational with a 54-hole score of 6-under 858. The Cavaliers shot 5-over 293 during Sunday’s final round. Florida and Auburn tied for first place at 16-under 848. The Tigers defeated the Gators on the first playoff hole to claim the team championship.

Virginia was led by Ben Kohles’ fifth place finish at 5-under 211. He shot even par 72 during the final round. Amory Davis joined Kohles near the top of the leaderboard, finishing seventh at 212. He led the Cavaliers with a 2-under 70 during the final round.

Kohles notched the 15th top-10 showing in his career. It was the fifth time this season he has led the Cavaliers in scoring and marked the sixth time he has finished in the top-10.

Davis’s showing was the 10th time in his career he has placed in the top 10.

Ben Rusch shot 75 Sunday and was 15th overall at 1-over 217. Bruce Woodall carded a 77 during the final round to finish 26th at 3-over 219. Will Collins was 36th at 5-over 221. Collins shot 76 during the final round.

Florida’s Bank Vongvanij took medalist honors at 9-under 207. He finished one stroke ahead of North Florida’s Kevin Aylvin and Auburn’s Kyle Kopsick.

The Cavaliers next tournament gets underway March 27 when UVa plays at Hootie @Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C.
