Charlottesville, VA – The seventh-ranked Virginia women’s golf team will compete against a stellar field this weekend at the 14th-annual Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C. The 17-team field will play at the par-72, 6,386-yard Champions Course at Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center, starting Friday, March 25. The 54-hole event runs through Sunday. Wake Forest and UNC Greensboro are the co-hosts of the tournament.

This year’s field includes the College of Charleston, No. 4 Duke, Florida State, Louisville, No. 15 Michigan State, Northwestern, No. 22 North Carolina, NC State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Ohio State, South Carolina, No. 16 Tennessee, No. 21 Vanderbilt, No. 17 Wake Forest and Washington.

Virginia’s lineup features Brittany Altomare, Nicole Agnello, Calle Nielson, Joy Kim and Portland Rosen. Elizabeth Brightwell will compete as a non-scoring individual. UVa is paired with Duke and Michigan State during the first round and will tee off starting at 8:20 a.m. from the first tee.

The Cavaliers placed 11th at last year’s tournament despite a third-place showing from Altomare. Florida State held off Wake Forest by one shot to take the team title at 9-over 873. Virginia was second in the 2009 tournament with Nielson tying for sixth place.

Altomare, ranked No. 8 this week by Golfstat, leads the Cavaliers this season with a 72.00 stroke average. Nielson is second at 73.89. Altomare has been UVa’s top finisher in four of the team’s last five outings. She and fellow sophomore Nicole Agnello tied for 11th at the LSU Class in the team’s last outing. Virginia placed second in the 21-team field.
