Browns Summit, NC – The seventh-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is in fourth place following Friday’s opening round of play at the Bryan National Collegiate at Bryan Park’s Champions Course in Browns Summit, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 8-over 296 and trail tournament-leading No. 16 Tennessee by eight shots. Wake Forest is second at 294 and North Carolina is third at 295.

Calle Nielson led the Cavaliers with an even par 72. She is tied for fourth place overall. Portland Rosen posted a 1-over 73 and is in 10th place. Brittany Altomare shot 74 and is 15th. Joy Kim carded a 77 to place 42nd and Nicole Agnello shot 78 and is in 51st place. Elizabeth Brightwell, playing as a non-scoring individual, is in 65th place after shooting 80.

Tennessee’s Erica Popson and Wake Forest’s Michelle Shin lead the field at 2-under 70. Only three competitors in the 90-player field managed to break par during the opening round.

The Cavaliers will start their second round Saturday at 8:30 a.m. UVa will be paired with Duke and Vanderbilt during the second round. Live scoring from the tournament is online at Golfstat.com.
