REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The Second Varsity Eight of the No. 1 Virginia rowing team finished a weekend on the West Coast with a 2-0 record, defeating No. 3 California on Sunday (March 27).

The Second Varsity Eight of coxswain Molly Frear, MacKenzie Leahy, Carli Goldberg, Carolyn Glandorf, Jenny Shultis, Morgan Joseph, Brandy Herald, Cara Linnenkohl and Hunter Terry finished the race against the Bears with a time of 6:40.1 compared to Cal’s time of 6:48.5.

In the Varsity Eight race, Cal bested Virginia, 6:28.6 to 6:31.1. Virginia’s Varsity Eight line-up was coxswain Sidney Thorsten, Kristine O’Brien, Christine Roper, Keziah Beall, Martha Kuzzy, Fiona Schlesinger, Marelle Myers, Claudia Blandford and Taylor Levine.

In the Varsity Four race, Virginia’s time of 7:18.4 was second place to Cal’s time of 7:16.8. UVa’s Varsity Four line-up was Sarah Jordan, Ruth Retzinger, Lauren Shook, Chelsea Simpson and Kaity McCullough.

Up next, Virginia will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for races against Ohio State and Michigan on April 3.
