No. 2 Virginia Sweeps Races Vs. No. 7 Ohio State and No. 12 Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The second-ranked Virginia rowing team won all of its races against No. 7 Ohio State and No. 12 Michigan on Sunday (April 3) on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio.

Virginia’s Varsity Eight (coxswain Sidney Thorsten, Kristine O’Brien, Christine Roper, Keziah Beall, Martha Kuzzy, Fiona Schlesinger, Marelle Myers, Claudia Blandford and Taylor Levine) defeated Ohio State, 6:40.35 to 6:44.46, and Michigan, 6:48.20 to 6:56.63.

UVa’s Second Varsity Eight (coxswain Molly Frear, MacKenzie Leahy, Carli Goldberg, Carolyn Glandorf, Jenny Shultis, Morgan Joseph, Brandy Herald, Cara Linnenkohl and Hunter Terry) also swept the ranked opponents, defeating Ohio State, 6:45.70 to 6:51.60, and Michigan, 7:05.00 to 7:12.86.

In the Varsity Four (Sarah Jordan, Ruth Retzinger, Lauren Shook, Chelsea Simpson and Kaity McCullough), UVa’s times of 7:38.0 and 8:11.50 defeated Ohio State (7:47.59) and Michigan (8:23.06).

Virginia was also victorious in the Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight vs. Ohio State and in the Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight vs. Michigan.

Virginia is next in action on Lake Monticello on April 16-17. The Cavaliers welcome No. 10 Michigan State (April 16, 9 a.m.), No. 11 UCLA (April 16, 1 p.m.) and No. 9 Southern California (April 17, 9 a.m.) to their home course.
