CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (17-19, 1-7 ACC) continues Atlantic Coast Conference play with a three-game series at Florida State this weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. The two teams will play a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday and conclude the series at 12 p.m. Sunday. Live statistics for all three contests will be linked on VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavaliers have won two straight after earning their first ACC win, 3-1, at North Carolina last Sunday and defeating James Madison 6-0 in a midweek contest on Wednesday.

Freshman Stephanie Harris continues to pace UVa offensively, with a .346 average and a team-best 23 RBI. Senior Alison Pittman is hitting .298 and her 12 steals make her one of three Cavaliers in double figures on the basepaths. Junior Giannina Cipolloni is carrying a .288 average and is 23-for-24 in stolen bases this season.

In the circle, sophomore Melanie Mitchell has earned Virginia’s last two victories, both complete game outings. She has a 3.14 earned run average to date and has struck out 153 batters in 131 2/3 innings of work.

Florida State is 17-20 on the year and off to a 3-6 start in ACC play. The Seminoles are coming off a 2-1 loss at Central Florida on Wednesday in non-conference action.

In conference play, FSU took two games from NC State before getting swept at North Carolina and dropping two-of three against Virginia Tech last weekend.

Senior Jen Lapicki leads the Seminoles at the plate with a .352 average and 21 RBI. Teammate Robin Ahrberg contributes a .345 average and a team-high 23 RBI while Courtney Senas boasts a squad-best 13 stolen bases.

Senior pitcher Sarah Hamilton is the ace of FSU’s pitching staff. She has a 2.10 ERA with 14 complete games on the year to go along with 175 strikeouts in 140 1/3 innings.

Florida State leads the all-time series with Virginia, 64-16. The Seminoles took two-of-three last year in Charlottesville.
