Greensboro, NC – The sixth-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied with No. 29 Florida State for second place after the opening round of the ACC Championships taking place at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Virginia shot 11-over 295 on the par-71 course and trails No. 23 North Carolina by six shots.

The Cavaliers are in a pack of five teams separated by just three strokes. No. 16 Wake Forest is in fourth place at 296, No. 5 Duke is fifth at 297 and Maryland is sixth at 298.

Virginia was led by the top-10 finishes of sophomores Nicole Agnello and Brittany Altomare. Agnello shot 1-over 72 and is in sixth place while Altomare shot 73 and is tied for seventh place.

Senior Calle Nielson posted a score of 3-over 74 to stand 12th while freshman Portland Rosen carded a 5-over 76 in her first ACC Tournament and is in 21st place. Junior Eleana Collins also made her ACC debut, shooting 7-over 78 to finish the opening round in 32nd place.

North Carolina grabbed the early lead behind the play of Allie White’s 5-under 66. She owns a four-shot lead over Wake Forest’s Cheyenne Woods in stroke play.

The second round of the tournament is schedule to start Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Rain and thurnderstorms are expected in the Greensboro area during the morning and afternoon.
