RICHMOND, Va. – Inclement weather affected the Virginia track and field team this weekend, as junior Matt Meyer and freshman DreQuan Hoskey were the only Cavaliers to earn marks at VCU’s Rams Invitational on Saturday. The men’s and women’s pole vault competitions were cancelled due to high winds, while lightning in the area cut the meet short.

Hoskey – a member of Virginia’s football team – competed in his first-ever event for the Cavaliers, the 110m hurdles. Hoskey finished runner-up in the race with a time of 14.81.

In the long jump, Meyer leaped 22′ 1″ to finish fifth overall.

Virginia will return to action next week as it heads to Durham, N.C., for the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. Events will take place Thursday through Saturday, April 21-23.
