CHARLOTTESVILLE – After completing a weekend of competition that included wins over No. 3 Southern California and No. 17 UCLA, Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week.

The Cavalier crew of coxswain Molly Frear, MacKenzie Leahy, Carli Goldberg, Carolyn Glandorf, Jenny Shultis, Morgan Joseph, Brandy Herald, Cara Linnenkohl and Hunter Terry bounced back from a loss to No. 8 Michigan State Friday night at Lake Monticello to earn victories in its Saturday and Sunday races.

UVa posted a time of 6:29.3 edging out USC (6:32.7) by more than three seconds. Against the Bruins, UVa’s time of 6:53.4 was more than 10 seconds faster than UCLA’s time (7:03.8).

This is the second ACC Crew of the Week honor for Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight. The crew also got the nod on March 29 after defeating California and Stanford to open the season.

On the year, UVa’s Second Varsity Eight has a 6-1 record in its races.

Virginia is set to compete at the 2011 ACC Championships, being held on Saturday (April 23) at Clemson’s Lake Hartwell. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
