Lindsey Hardenbergh Named ACC Tennis Co-Player of the Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior tennis player Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) was named the ACC Women’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Hardenbergh, who shares the award with Amy Sargeant of Florida State, helped the Cavaliers post the two highest ranked road wins in school history last week, defeating No. 12 Clemson 4-3 and No. 13 Georgia Tech 6-1.

In Saturday’s win over the Tigers, Hardenbergh teamed with Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) to clinch the crucial doubles point with an 8-6 win over third-ranked Josipa Bek and Keri Wong. In singles, she rallied for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over ninth-ranked Bek, the highest ranked win of her career. In Sunday’s win over the Yellow Jackets, Hardenbergh clinched the victory with her 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 1 over No. 39 Jillian O’Neill.

Hardenbergh, who moved up to a career-high No. 28 national singles ranking this week, went 11-0 in singles this season in the ACC (5-0 at No. 1, 6-0 at No. 2).

The award is the second of the season for Hardenbergh and the third of her career. She was also honored on Feb. 22 this year along with once last season.

The Cavaliers (18-6, 7-4 ACC), who moved up to No. 11 in the ITA team rankings, are the No. 4 seed for this week’s ACC Tournament at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C. After a first round bye, Virginia will meet either Florida State or Wake Forest in the quarterfinals on Friday at noon.
