Malcolm Brogdon Earns All-America Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE-Virginia men’s basketball recruit Malcolm Brogdon is a fourth team selection on the 2011 MaxPreps High School All-American Team.

Brogdon, a 6-5 guard from Norcross, Ga., averaged 25.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.3 steals a game for Greater Atlanta Christian School during the 2010-11 season. He made 53.9 percent (280-519) of his shots from the field, including 46.2 percent (48-104) from three-point range, and made 81.6 percent (213-261) of his free throw attempts.

Greater Atlanta Christian School won the Class AA State Championship for the second consecutive year.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution named Brogdon the Player of the Year in Georgia and the Georgia Sportswriters Association selected him as Georgia’s Mr. Basketball. He was honored as the Gwinnett Tip Off Club Player of the Year and the Gwinnett Daily Post Player of the Year. He was also the Class AA Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Georgia Sportswriters Association, and earned first-team All-State honors from the Atlanta Tip Off Club, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Georgia Sportswriters Association.

Brogdon averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game as a junior in 2009-10. He shot 53 percent from two-point range, 42 percent from three-point range and 79 percent from the free throw line. He led the team in scoring and steals (72), and was second in rebounds and assists.

He was the Class AA State Player of the Year, the Region 6 Class AA Player of the Year and the Gwinnett County Player of the Year for the 2009-10 season.

Brogdon signed a national letter of intent with Virginia in November of 2010.
