CHARLOTTESVILLE – For the second consecutive year, both the Virginia men’s and women’s tennis teams will host NCAA Tournament first and second round play at the Snyder Tennis Center. The men’s regional will be May 13-14 while the women’s regional will be May 14-15.

In the men’s tournament, Virginia will host Sacred Heart in the first round, while Wake Forest plays VCU in the other first round match in Charlottesville. In the women’s tournament, the Cavaliers play Army in the first round, with NC State meeting VCU in the other first round match. The first round winners play the following day for a trip to the NCAA Round of 16, hosted this year by Stanford.

The Cavalier men (29-0) are the No. 1 seed for the fourth consecutive year, becoming the first school to be the top seed in four straight tournaments since USC in 1991-94. The nation’s only undefeated team this season, Virginia won its fourth consecutive ITA National Team Indoor Championship and its fifth consecutive ACC Championship. It marks the eighth consecutive year that Virginia has received a seed and hosted a regional. The Cavaliers are the only team to be a top eight seed in the tournament in each of the past eight seasons. They have reached the NCAA quarterfinals in six straight tournaments, including semifinal appearances in three of the last four years.

The Cavalier women (18-7) are the No. 11 seed in the tournament, marking the first time they have ever been seeded. They have already tied the school record for wins in a season with 18 and earlier this season cracked the top 10 for the first time in school history. Virginia is looking for its first trip to the NCAA Round of 16, having lost in the Round of 32 in four of the last five years. This season marks the second time the Cavaliers have hosted NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship play, having served as a non-seeded host last year.
