CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia’s Varsity Four was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday (May 4). The crew of coxswain Sarah Jordan, Ruth Retzinger, Kaity McCullough, Chelsea Simpson and Susanne Grainger won its race and defeated No. 1 Princeton, No. 19 Tennessee and Columbia on Saturday (April 30) in Princeton, N.J.

The Varsity Four won by 11 seconds to finish with a time of 8:01.5 to Princeton’s 8:12.5. Tennessee finished third (8:17.0) and Columbia was fourth (8:29.7).

The Varsity Four has won seven races this spring, with its only setbacks coming to then-No. 3 USC (April 17) and then-No. 4 California (March 27).

This is the third ACC Crew of the Week honor for Virginia, as the Second Varsity Eight claimed the accolade on March 29 and April 18.

Virginia has a break from competition during final exams, but is back in action on May 15 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Cavaliers take on Notre Dame and Louisville.
