CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.
– Virginia sophomore Chris Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va.) has been named to the watch list for the 2011 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award, presented by the College Baseball Hall of Fame. The list features 25 of the nation’s finest Division I shortstops.

Taylor is having a breakout season for the top-ranked Cavaliers. He is batting .302 with 11 doubles, two triples and 33 runs batted in. Taylor leads the team with 49 runs scored, which ranks third in the conference. He also owns 18 multiple-hit games. Taylor has played a stellar shortstop all season and owns a .956 fielding percentage.

After starting the first four games in right field this season, Taylor moved to shortstop and has started the last 44 games there. He is one of three UVa players to start all 48 games this year.

The Wallace Award will be presented on July 3 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions.

Taylor and his Cavaliers will play host to No. 14 Miami May 13-15 at Davenport Field.
