CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -The Virginia softball team (23-30, 5-14 ACC) earned the No. 8 seed in the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship and will face top-seeded Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. Friday at Mewborn Field in Atlanta, Ga. The Yellow Jackets are serving as the host school for the event.

Virginia has been off for final examinations since Tuesday when it split a doubleheader with in-state rival Liberty.

Georgia Tech (44-9, 18-2 ACC) is ranked No. 17 in the latest national poll and received the No. 1 seed after wrapping up its third consecutive regular season title and fourth overall. The Yellow Jackets claimed both games with the Cavaliers in a rain-shortened series earlier this year at The Park.

Fans unable to attend the event can follow the action at home via The ACC Network on theACC.com, where games on Friday and Saturday will be video-streamed. The championship game on Sunday will be televised on the league’s regional sports network. Links to the live webcasts as well as live statistics will be available on VirginiaSports.com.
