CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team will host first and second round action of the 2011 NCAA Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers play Army in the first round on Saturday at noon, with NC State and VCU meeting in the other first round match at 9 a.m. The first round winners will meet in the second round at 1 p.m. on Sunday for a trip to the round of 16 next week at Stanford.

This weekend’s matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Snyder Tennis Center and there will be free parking for fans at the Culbreth Garage. The NCAA will make every attempt to play tournament matches outdoors, but if weather conditions prevent outdoor play, matches will be moved indoors to the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers (18-7) are the No. 11 seed in the tournament, marking the first national seed in program history. Virginia has already tied the school record for wins in a season and is looking for the first trip to the NCAA Round of 16 in program history.

Army (23-7) is making its seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Patriot League. NC State (15-8) and VCU (19-5) earned at-large berths to the tournament.

The Virginia men’s tennis team is also hosting first and second round NCAA Tournament play this weekend at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers play Sacred Heart in the first round at 1 p.m. on Friday, with Wake Forest and VCU meeting in the other first round match at 10 a.m. The first round winners will meet in the second round at 3 p.m. on Saturday for a trip to the round of 16.
