CHARLOTTESVILLE – For the 14th time in the 15-year history of the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships, Virginia has earned a berth to the competition, the NCAA announced Tuesday (May 17). The championships will be held May 27-29 at Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif.

UVa won the 2010 team title and Varsity Four race and will be one of 16 teams that will field a Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four crew.

The Cavaliers are ranked No. 5 in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) poll and won the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on April 23.

Virginia has competed in 13 NCAA Championships, winning the 2010 title and finishing as runner-up three times (most recently in 2007).

The Cavaliers have won the Second Varsity Eight race at NCAAs three times (1998, 1999, 2005) and the Varsity Four race four times (2004-05, 2007, 2010).

As a team, UVa has finished in the top four nine times (1997-2000, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009-10).

In addition to Virginia, the teams competing in the 2011 NCAA Championships are: Brown, California, Clemson, Dartmouth, Harvard, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Princeton, Southern California, Stanford, Washington, Washington State, Wisconsin and Yale.
