Charlottesville, VA – Former Virginia women’s golfer Whitney Neuhauser (Barboursville, Va.) won a sectional qualifier tournament Tuesday, May 17 to earn a spot into the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open. Neuhauser shot even par 144 at the Indiana Country Club in Indiana, Pa. to claim a spot in the national championship tournament.

This year’s tournament will take place July 7-10 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. There were a total of 1,296 entries for this year’s event. Non-exempt players had to advance through local and sectional tournaments to make the field.

Neuhauser played at Virginia from 2006-10. As a junior she earned third-team All-America honors from Golfweek. During her four-year career he compiled six top-10 finishes and was the runner up at two tournaments. She played in the NCAA Championships during her sophomore and junior seasons.
