CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia softball player Giannina Cipolloni was named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team, announced Thursday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Cipolloni, a junior outfielder, hit .303 during the 2011 campaign and led the Cavaliers with 32 stolen bases, a mark that also ranked second among ACC players. The Philadelphia native also had the most hits (54) and runs (33) on the squad and contributed eight doubles and two triples. She committed just one error in all 55 starts in center field for a .987 fielding percentage.

Cipolloni is the fourth Cavalier to have earned all-region honors under fourth-year head coach Eileen Schmidt, joining Nicole Koren, Melanie Mitchell and Sarah Tacke, who were all first-team selections in 2010.

Virginia finished the 2011 campaign with a 24-31 record and was 5-14 in the ACC.
