CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Matt Snyder (R-So., Lewistown, Pa.) of the Virginia wrestling team has been named a Capital One Second-Team Academic All-District honoree, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Snyder earned the award in the at-large category, which includes men’s fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Snyder finished his 2010-11 season with a 26-11 record in the 125-pound weight class and was nationally ranked for much of the season. He was the ACC runner-up at 125 and earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships, where he posted a 3-2 record and reached the round of 12 before falling one win shy of All-America status. In his run to the round of 12, Snyder earned a 13-4 major decision over No. 11 national seed Frank Perrelli of Cornell.

A kinesiology major, Snyder excelled in the classroom once again with a 3.77 cumulative grade-point average. He was named to the All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team for the second-straight season and also picked up the Mike Krafchick Academic Achievement Award following the season.

Next year Snyder will live on the Lawn at UVa, one of the premier honors accorded at the University. He has aspirations of attending medical school after college.
