UVa Golfers Altomare and Nielson Repeat as All-Americans

College Station, TX – Virginia women’s golfers Brittany Altomare (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Calle Nielson (Nashville, Tenn.) have been named All-Americans by the National Golf Coaches Association. Altomare was a second-team selection while Nielson received honorable mention accolades.

Both players were honorable mention picks by the NGCA in 2010 and it marks the third year in a row Nielson has been honored by the organization. She was an honorable mention selection in 2009. Nielson joins Leah Wigger as the only players in UVa history to earn All-America honors three years in a row.

The NGCA also announced Nielson was selected to the All-West Region team for the second year in a row.

Altomare was 12th at the NCAA Championships, leading UVa to a best-ever fourth place finish. This season she led Virginia with a 73.18 stroke average that ranked second among all ACC players. She topped UVa in scoring in eight of 11 tournaments and earned All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season. Altomare placed first at the Golfweek Challenge and The Landfall Tradition tournaments to notch the first victories in her career.

Nielson picked up All-ACC honors for the fourth consecutive season in 2011. She was second on the team with a 74.35 stroke average. She finished 26th at the NCAA Championships after leading UVa with a fourth-place performance at the NCAA West Regional. She finished her Cavalier career with 17 top-10 finishes.
