Sumfest, Robinson, Vittese to Compete in Junior National Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three members of the Virginia field hockey team have been selected to compete in the 2011 Junior Women’s National Championships, set for June 18-25 in Virginia Beach, Va. Rachel Sumfest, Katie Robinson and Carissa Vittese will all play in the tournament.
Over 100 athletes under the age of 20 have been named to six different teams from regional High Performance Centers around the country. Athletes participating in this tournament will have the opportunity to be selected to attend 2011 Junior National Camp at Old Dominion University from July 12-15. Junior National Camp serves as a selection opportunity on to the USA Women’s U-21, U-19, and U-17 National Squads.
Sumfest, who will begin her first year at Virginia in the fall, will play as a member of the Pennsylvania squad. Robinson and Vittese, both sophomores, are part of the Mid-Atlantic team.
