CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field team will send 13 Cavaliers to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the USA Junior and Senior National Championships Thursday through Sunday at historic Hayward Field. The event will be featured on three networks, in six broadcasts spread over three days of competition. Broadcasts will air on ESPN2, Universal and NBC. In addition, a free webcast will be provided in partnership with RunnerSpace.com. The webcast will run through the duration of the event, with commentators including Larry Rawson, Jenny Adams, Dan O’Brien, Joanna Hayes and John Godina.

Ten Cavaliers will compete in the 2011 USA Championships, which will serve as the selection event for the coveted spots to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, from Aug. 27-Sept. 4. Virginia will also have three Cavaliers competing in the USA Junior Championships, which will serve as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Miramar, Fla., July 22-24. The top-three finishers in each event at the USA Championships will be invited to represent Team USA in South Korea, while the top-two finishers in the junior championship will advance to compete for Team USA in Florida.

Competing in the USA Championships will be senior All-American Lyndsay Harper, junior All-American Lance Roller, sophomore NCAA Champion Robby Andrews and the ACC Freshman of the Year Anthony Kostelac, all in the 800m. Senior All-American Ayla Smith will race the 400m hurdles, while senior All-American Adams Abdulrazaaq will compete in the 110m hurdles. Junior transfer Patrick Todd will don the Cavaliers’ uniform for the first time in his career, joining junior John Minen in the 1500m, while junior All-American Andy Fahringer (javelin) and senior NCAA runner-up Stephanie Garcia (steeplechase) will round out the Cavaliers that are competing.

In the junior championship, freshman ACC Champion Vanessa Fabrizio will race the 800m, while classmate Colin Mearns will compete in the steeplechase. Freshman Kathleen Stevens will toe the line for her first race in Virginia uniform, competing in the 3000m.
