Bandon, OR – Virginia junior golfer Brittany Altomare (Shrewsbury, Mass.) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship Thursday at the 6,095-yard, par-71 Bandon Trails course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. She made it through to the quarterfinals with a 2-up victory over Kelsey Vines during the round of 16. Altomare will face UCLA’s Tiffany Lua in Friday’s quarterfinals at 8 a.m. PT.

Altomare advanced to match play after finishing tied for fifth following 36 holes of stroke play. She finished at 6-over 148. She defeated Briana Mao 3&2 in the round of 64 and dispatched Ellen Mueller 1-up in the round of 32.

This year’s event marks the fourth consecutive year Altomare has competed at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championships.

The event’s quarterfinal and semifinal matches are on Friday, and the 36-hole championship final will be played Saturday. The final three rounds will all be conducted at Old Macdonald.
 The U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links is one of 13 championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
