CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.
– Former UVa track & field student-athlete Stephanie Garcia competed for the USA team this week at the 2011 IAAF World Championship in Daegu, Korea. Running in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Garcia placed seventh in her preliminary heat with a time of 9:53.47.

Garcia failed to reach the finals as each heat’s top four finishers advanced, along with the next three fastest times. NCAA champion Emma Coburn (Colorado) was the lone American to make the final, where she finished 13th overall last night.

Dana Coons (UVa ’01) was Virginia’s last competitor in the IAAF World Championships when she competed at the 2007 Osaka World Championships in the marathon.
