ATHENS, Ohio – The Virginia volleyball team dropped a match to Louisville, 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25), Saturday (Sept. 10). The Cavaliers are competing at Ohio University’s tournament and have one more contest Sunday (Sept. 11) vs. the host Bobcats.

With the loss, UVa’s record went to 5-3 on the year. Louisville improved to 7-2.

Simone Asque registered her third-consecutive match of double-digit kills with 15, while Rachel Clark added 10 kills and 13 digs for her second-straight double-double.

Jessica O’Shoney was the third Cavalier in double digits for kills, contributing 12. O’Shoney also finished with a team-high six blocks.

Louisville was led by Lola Arslanbekova’s 17 kills and 13 digs.

Virginia trailed a set before battling back to tie the match at one game apiece. In the third set, Virginia kept it close throughout and the game was tied at 19-19 when Louisville earned back-to-back points to create separation at 21-19. From there, the ‘Hoos and Cardinals traded points but Louisville’s Emily Juhl came up with the game-winning kill to give Louisville the 25-23 victory.

In the fourth set, Louisville jumped out to a 10-5 lead and ended up earning the 25-18 victory to clinch the match.

Emily Rottman added 15 digs for the ‘Hoos, while Tess Udall finished with a team-high 17 digs.

The Cavaliers continue action at Ohio’s tournament Sunday (Sept. 11) with a 1 p.m. match vs. host institution Ohio University. Live statistics will be available at VirginiaSports.com.
