ATHENS, Ohio – Taking on the host Bobcats at Ohio University’s tournament, the Virginia volleyball team earned a 3-1 (26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 25-14) victory Sunday (Sept. 11).

The Cavaliers improved to 6-3 on the season and Simone Asque and Jessica O’Shoney were named to the all-tournament team after a 2-1 weekend for UVa. Ohio University’s record went to 4-5 on the season with the loss.

Asque had her first 20-kill performance of the 2011 season, leading a group of four Cavaliers that earned double-digit kills with 22. Asque added five digs and three blocks.

For the weekend, Asque finished with 53 kills in three matches, and hit an impressive .325 en route to her second all-tournament team honor of the season.

O’Shoney, meanwhile, tallied 15 kills and five blocks vs. the Bobcats. For the weekend, O’Shoney averaged nearly 1.4 blocks per set, leading the team with 15 total blocks.

Mallory Woolridge was efficient on offense, connecting on 12 kills while only committing two errors on 20 attempts for a team-high .500 hitting percentage.

Rachel Clark and Beth Wildermuth each notched double-doubles, with Clark posting 11 kills and 16 digs and Wildermuth dishing out 55 assists to go with 16 digs.

Emily Rottman had 19 digs and three assists from her libero position.

For Ohio, Kelly Lamberti registered 20 kills and 12 digs to lead the Bobcats.

Virginia begins Atlantic Coast Conference play with a Friday, Sept. 16, match at Virginia Tech (7 p.m.). The following day, UVa takes on UConn for a neutral-site contest in Blacksburg, Va. (1 p.m.).
