BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team was defeated by Connecticut, 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-27, 17-25), on Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon in Blacksburg, Va.

The loss dropped UVa’s overall record to 6-5 on the season, while Connecticut improved to 8-4.

Junior Jessica O’Shoney finished with a team-high 18 kills and hit .500 to lead UVa offensively. Senior Simone Asque added 13 kills and Beth Wildermuth added 49 assists and seven digs.

Emily Rottman contributed 18 digs and Tess Udall recorded 11 digs and seven kills. Freshman Tori Janowski recorded 10 kills and three blocks.

Virginia came out strong, taking the first set by a score of 25-20.

The Huskies rallied to claim the next three sets by scores of 25-17, 27-25 and 25-17.

Jordan Kirk finished with 18 kills and 12 digs to lead Connecticut, while Devon Maugle added a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Connecticut out-hit the ‘Hoos .303 to .217 for the match.

Up next, Virginia hosts two ACC opponents on Friday, Sept. 23 (Florida State) and Sunday, Sept. 25 (Miami).
