CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team concluded play at the UVa Fall Invitational, its first event of the fall, on Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers won the top two singles flights, along with a doubles flight.

In the Flight A singles, Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.), who won the tournament last year, defended her title by defeating Joelle Kissell of NC State, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(8) in final. She saved two match points in the third-set breaker before winning. Li Xi (Kunming, China) took third place, defeating Kayla Duncan of Wake Forest, 6-3, 6-2.

In Flight B, Molly O’Koniewski (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) topped Daria Yakauleva of VCU in the final, 6-4, 6-3 to win her flight in her collegiate debut. Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) finished third, defeating Sandra Herrera of Winthrop 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, the team O’Koniewski and Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won the Flight B title, defeating Devon Sutherland and Stephanie Falcon of UNC Greensboro 9-7 in the final.

At the Duke Fab Four Invitational in Cary, N.C., Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) lost her singles final, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to Gabby Mejia of Alabama. The duo of Fraser and Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) lost 9-8 in their doubles final to Courtney McLane and Taylor Lindsey of Alabama.

The Cavaliers will return to action on October 1, as play begins at the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles.
