Charlottesville, VA – The No. 7 ranked Virginia women’s golf team opens the fall portion of its season Friday at the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview in Nashville, Tenn., at Vanderbilt’s Legends Club. The Fall Preview is held annually at the site of the NCAA Championships and includes the top teams from the previous year’s NCAA Championship. Virginia placed fourth at the 2011 NCAA Championships, the best showing in the program’s history. The 54-hole tournament runs Friday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 25.

The field for the Fall Preview may be the toughest of any tournament played this season. The top 13 teams from the current Golfweek poll are participating. Every team in the 18-school field is ranked in Golfweek’s top-25.

This year’s Fall Preview field includes: No. 17 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Alabama, No. 9 Arizona, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 Arkansas, No. 6 California, No. 8 Duke, No. 18 Florida, No. 19 Georgia, No. 5 LSU, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 4 Purdue, No. 1 Southern California, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 24 Texas A&M, No. 23 Tulane, No. 2 UCLA and Virginia.

Virginia’s lineup will feature Brittany Altomare, Elizabeth Brightwell, Nicole Agnello, Lauren Greenlief and Portland Rosen. Altomare, Agnello and Rosen all played in the 2011 NCAA Championships and Greenlief was in UVa’s lineup for the 2010 NCAAs.

Altomare, a preseason All-American, is UVa’s top returning scorer. She posted a 73.18 scoring average and led the team in scoring in seven of 11 tournaments. She finished first at the Golfweek Collegiate Challenge, was seventh at the ACC Championships and 12th at the NCAA Championships.

Last season Virginia opened its season with an eighth-place finish at The Fall Preview.
