Nashville, TN – The seventh-ranked Virginia women’s golf team tied for third at the 18-team Mason Rudolph Fall Preview in Nashville. The tournament featured the top 13 teams in the nation and every school in the field was ranked in Golfweek’s current top-25. The event was held at Vanderbilt’s Legends Club, the site of the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Virginia shot 6-over 294 during the final round for a three-day total of 20-over 884 to tie with No. 11 Arizona State on the leaderboard. Second-ranked UCLA won the tournament at 9-over 873. Alabama, ranked third, was the runner-up at 879.

Junior All-American Brittany Altomare led the Cavaliers Sunday with a final-round 3-under 69. She tied for third overall at 2-under 214, two shots behind Duke’s Lindy Duncan and Alabama’s Jennifer Kirby. Altomare shot 75 during the first round and 70 during the second round. It was the ninth top-10 finish during her career and was the 15th time she has led the team in scoring in 24 events.

Sophomore Portland Rosen was UVa’s next best finisher, placing 22nd at 6-over 222. She shot 75 Sunday. Nicole Agnello was 43rd at 227 including an 81 in the final round. Elizabeth Brightwell moved up to 57th thanks to a 74 Sunday, her best round of the tournament. Lauren Greenlief was 75th at 235. She carded a score of 76 Sunday.

The Cavaliers return to play Oct. 7-9 at the Tar Heel Invitational.
