UVa Golfers Grab 36-Hole Lead at VCU Shootout

Manakin Sabot, VA – The 21st-ranked Virginia men’s golf team owns a three-shot lead following the first two rounds of play at the VCU Shootout taking place at Hermitage Country Club. The Cavaliers shot 2-under 286 during the morning round and then blitzed the course in the afternoon, shooting 15-under 273, for a 36-hole total of 17-under 559. Virginia Tech trails the Cavaliers by three strokes while East Carolina is in third place at 563.
UVa freshman Denny McCarthy trails Iowa State’s Scott Fernandez by one shot at the top of the leaderboard. McCarthy posted rounds of 2-under 70 and 6-under 66 for a first-day total of 8-under 136. Cavalier senior Ben Kohles, the two-time ACC player of the year, is in fourth place at 138. Kohles posted rounds of 73 and 65.
Senior Bruce Woodall is in 18th place at 1-under 143. He carded rounds of 72 and 71. Ben Rusch is in 28th place at 144 while Mac McLaughlin is 38th at 145. Cavalier freshman Ji Soo Park, playing as an individual is tied at 28th at 144 while Cory Siegfried, also playing as an individual, is 64th at 149.
Tuesday’s final round starts at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Cavaliers will start on the first three holes while being paired with the Hokies and East Carolina.
