CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Blue team picked up a 4-1 win over the Orange Monday night in Game 2 of the Orange and Blue World Series at Davenport Field. The Blue won its second straight game to take the first series.

The Blue pitching staff limited the Orange to just one run and four hits. Scott Silverstein earned the win after starting and pitching five strong innings. He allowed just a run, two hits and a walk while striking out six. Shane Halley fired three scoreless innings before Justin Thompson got the final three outs to nab the save.

Orange starter Joe Effertz worked 4.1 innings and allowed two earned runs and six hits while striking out five; he was credited with the loss.

Nick Howard went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead to pace the Blue. Nate Irving added a pair of hits. Reed Gragnani picked up two of the Orange’s four hits.

The Orange got on the board first with a run in the fourth on a Mike Papi double to plate Gragnani, who singled with one out and stole second.

The Blue picked up three in the fifth to move ahead. Kenny Towns hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a Chris Taylor fly ball and slid in safely at the plate following a perfectly-executed Keith Werman squeeze bunt. Werman reached on the bunt and stole second. One out later Brandon Downes walked, and both runners scored on a double by Howard.

The Blue added a run in the sixth on a Taylor sacrifice fly.
