Women's Tennis Opens Play at Bulldog Tennis Classic

ATHENS, Ga. – The Virginia women’s tennis team began play Friday at the Bulldog Tennis Classic at the Dan Magill Tennis Center, site of this year’s NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers won four singles matches and three doubles matches during the first day of the four-team, round-robin event.
In singles, Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.), ranked 18th nationally, topped No. 62 Brooke Bolender of Michigan 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(4). Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) defeated Michelle Sulahian of Michigan 6-0, 6-4, Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) downed Michigan’s Kristen Dodge 6-1, 6-1, and Marjorie Baker (Washington, D.C.) posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Alina Jerjomina of Georgia.
In doubles, the Cavaliers went undefeated in three matches. The teams of Hardenbergh and Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.), Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and Li Xi (Kunming, China), and Baker and Molly O’Koniewski (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) posted wins.
The tournament continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
