CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team (7-11, 0-4 ACC) was defeated 5-0 Saturday at Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons move to 8-8 and 1-3 in conference play on the year.

The Cavaliers were outshot 17-6 for the game. Wake Forest finished with five penalty corners while Virginia took two. Sophomores Elly Buckley and Carissa Vittese each tallied two shots for the Cavaliers; both of Vittese’s shots were on target.

Wake Forest scored three times in the first half, including two goals from junior Lizzie Rae. The Demon Deacons then added two more scores in the second stanza.

Freshman goalkeeper Jenny Johnstone had three stops for the Cavaliers in the first half. Senior Adrienne Ostroff came on to play the second half. Wake Forest’s Kaitlyn Ruhf also totaled three saves.

Virginia concludes the regular season next Saturday (Oct. 29) at home vs. Duke. The Cavaliers will honor their three seniors – Ostroff, Alex Jahnle and Rachel Jennings – on the field immediately following the game.
