CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the 11th annual Cavalier Open on Friday afternoon at Panorama Farms. The men’s 8K race will begin at 4 p.m., while the women will run their 5K at 4:45 p.m.

The Cavalier women finished in a tie for third at the 2011 ACC Championships, while the men placed sixth. Both senior Mark Amirault (Walpole, Mass.) and junior Barbara Strehler (Richmond, Va.) earned All-ACC honors.

At the 2010 Cavalier Open, Virginia’s Kathleen Stevens (Blacksburg, Va.) and Brett Johnson (Ocean City, N.J.) won the individual titles in times of 18:26.28 and 24:58.76, respectively.

There will be no team scores compiled at this weekend’s Cavalier Open.

Former ‘Hoo Emil Heineking set the men’s 8K course record in a time of 23:16.19 in 2009, while Duke’s Caroline Bierbaum holds the women’s 5K course record in a time 16:59.00, set in 2002.
