FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. — Virginia senior Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) advanced to the round of 16 in singles during the first day of play at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Fraser defeated Nicole Bartnik of Columbia 6-2, 6-0 in the round of 32 on Thursday. She will play Denise Dy of Washington, a 5-8 seed, in the round of 16 on Friday.

The other members of the team traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C. for this weekend’s Kitty Harrison Invitational. That tournament runs Friday-Sunday at UNC’s Cone-Kenfield Tennis Ceter.
