Virginia Finishes Competition at Cavalier Open

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Senior Sintayehu Taye (Portland, Maine) and sophomore Ariel Karabinus (Manassas, Va.) each placed fifth place as the Cavalier cross country teams competed in the 11th annual Cavalier Open at Panorama Farms Friday afternoon.
Taye was UVa’s top finisher in the men’s race in an 8K time of 25:19.94, while junior Bryan Lewis (Roanoke, Va.) placed 20th in 26:33.38 and fellow junior TJ Hobart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) crossed the line 26th in 27:10.07.
Karabinus finished fifth in the women’s 5K race in 18:11.85, while senior Laurel MacMillan (Blacksburg, Va.) placed seventh in 18:50.43. Senior Tasia Potasinski (Centreville, Va.) and sophomore Vanessa Fabrizio (Denver, Colo.) crossed the line 12th and 14th, respectively.
Julia Webb took the women’s crown in 17:54.32, while Everett Hackett won the men’s race in 24:31.19.
Team scores were not compiled at this year’s Cavalier Open.
The Cavaliers return to action Saturday, Nov. 12 for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Louisville, Ky.
