ST. THOMAS, USVI – The Virginia men’s basketball team plays on the road for the first time this season as it travels to St. Thomas for the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. The eight-team tournament runs Nov. 18-21 at the University of the Virgin Islands.

The Cavaliers open the tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. ET as they meet TCU. If they win on Friday, they would meet the Drexel/Norfolk State winner in the semifinals at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday. If they lose on Friday, they would meet the Drexel/Norfolk State loser in the consolation bracket on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Virginia will play its final game of the tournament on Monday against Drake, Marquette, Ole Miss or Winthrop.

Fox College Sports and FSN will televise both semifinals on Sunday, and the final and consolation game on Monday. In Virginia, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic will air both semifinals. CSN+ will air both the final and consolation game.

Virginia is making its first appearance in the Paradise Jam. The Cavaliers have played in the Caribbean twice before, playing in tournaments in Puerto Rico in 1999-00 and 2006-07.

Friday’s game marks the first ever meeting between Virginia and TCU. Both teams enter the game with 2-0 records. The Cavaliers are coming off a pair of home wins, downing South Carolina State, 75-38 and Winthrop, 69-48. The Horned Frogs defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 73-72 and Division III Austin College, 103-45.

Senior forward Mike Scott leads the Cavaliers at 13 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Junior guard Jontel Evans, who scored a career-high 17 points against Winthrop, is averaging 12.5 points per game and sophomore guard KT Harrell is averaging 10.5 points per game. Virginia has six players averaging at least 8.5 points per game through the first two games.

TCU is led by junior forward Garlon Green, who is averaging 13.5 points per game. Senior guard J.R. Cadot (10.5 ppg), junior forward Adrick McKinney (10.0 ppg) and sophomore guard Amric Fields (10.0 ppg) are also averaging in double figures for the Horned Frogs.
