CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia inside linebacker Steve Greer was named the ACC Linebacker of the Week following UVa’s triumph over then-No. 23 Florida State in Tallahassee, 14-13, last Saturday.

Greer (Solon, Ohio) led the Virginia defense with eight tackles and recorded two sacks, and another QB hurry in UVa’s upset win over the Seminoles. Greer came up with a key sack in the fourth quarter. With FSU leading 13-7 and at the Cavaliers’ 30-yard line, Greer sacked FSU quarterback EJ Manuel for a 14-yard loss, forcing the Seminoles to punt. UVa scored the winning touchdown on its next drive.

The Cavalier defense held FSU to just three points in the second half. Florida State entered the game averaging 34.6 points per game. Only Oklahoma (also with 13 points) has held FSU to fewer than 14 points this year.

The honor is the first of Greer’s career and it marks the first linebacker of the week accolade an UVa player has garnered since the league started giving out a specific weekly honor for linebackers in 2009. Prior to that, linebackers were eligible for the defensive back of the week honor.
