CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia sophomore Elly Buckley was tabbed a second team All-America selection by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, the organization announced. It is her second career honor after being named a third team honoree as a freshman in 2010.

“Elly is such a determined competitor,” Virginia head coach Michele Madison said. “All-Americans put the team on their back and lead the way. Elly does that; she believes.”

Buckley, a two-time first team All-Region selection, paced the Virginia offense with a team-best 17 goals and nine assists for 43 points. She also led the Cavaliers with 67 shots. Buckley was named to both the 2011 All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament teams.

Buckley was one of 15 ACC players who earned All-America honors, the most of any conference.

Buckley served as a co-captain for the Cavaliers this season. Virginia finished the year with an 8-12 mark.
