CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Senior Simone Asque (Chicago, Ill.) has been named to COBRA Magazine’s All-East Region Team for the second consecutive season, the publication announced in its December issue.

“Simone’s successes are results of her relentless drive in being the best she can be in all her endeavors,” UVa head coach Lee Maes said. “She is well respected for her work ethic, attitude, and competitiveness. Simone has certainly maximized the opportunities afforded her. It’s reflected in her maturation as a person and as a student-athlete.”

Asque led the Cavaliers this season with 403 kills and finished her career with 1,442 kills, the fourth-most tally in Virginia history. Asque also ranks fourth in kills per set in a career (3.52) and second in career attack attempts with 4,212.

She reached double-digit kills in 14 times in 2011, including each of the last nine matches, and 76 times in her career. Her season high was 23 in a win at NC State on Oct. 15.

“She’s been a great representative of our program on and off the court,” Maes continued. “We will miss her contributions. We know success will continue to follow her as she pursues new opportunities.”

The magazine’s purpose is to celebrate the success of volleyball players of African as well as Samoan and Tongan descent in hopes of encouraging young girls of those ethnic groups across the country to pursue the sport.
