CHARLOTTESVILLE-Rob Slavis, the assistant athletics director for compliance at Georgia State University since 2004, has been named assistant athletics director for compliance at Virginia. UVa Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Eric Baumgartner announced Slavis’ appointment on Tuesday (Jan. 10).

In his position at Virginia, Slavis will be responsible for work required to comply with all NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference and University rules and regulations, concentrating in the areas of education and interpretation. He will also assist with other compliance duties that support the overall objectives of the compliance program.

“I am very excited to announce the addition of Rob Slavis to the University of Virginia compliance office staff,” Baumgartner said. “We will benefit from Rob’s many years of experience and his knowledge of compliance work. His enthusiasm will also be beneficial as we assist our student-athletes, coaches and staff in developing championship programs.”

Prior to assuming his position at Georgia State, Slavis was the assistant director of compliance at Jacksonville University from 2001-2004. He was a graduate assistant in the office of compliance and legal affairs at Florida State University from 1999-2001 and also worked in the school’s athletics ticket office during that period.

“I am very appreciative of this opportunity to work at the University of Virginia,” Slavis said. “It is truly an honor to work at such a respected institution. I look forward to assisting the student-athletes, coaches and staff as they pursue their program and department goals.”

Slavis earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Union College in 1996 and his master’s degree in physical education from Florida State in 2000.
