Women's Tennis Concludes Play at UVa Winter Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team concluded play on Monday at the seventh annual UVa Winter Invitational at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club, the first event of the spring season. The Cavaliers won three singles matches and two doubles matches against Wake Forest on the final day of the event.
On Monday, a pair of Cavaliers completed a 3-0 weekend at the event. Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) won her match in Flight B and Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) was victorious in Flight D. Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) won in straight sets in Flight C. In doubles, Virginia won both of its matches on day as Vierra and Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) won in Flight A and Fuccillo and Tomljanovic won in Flight B.
Alexa Guarachi of Alabama was the singles champion of the tournament, while Guarachi and Courtney McLane were the doubles champions.
Virginia opens the dual match season on Feb. 21 as it faces No. 18 Tennessee at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
