CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia senior Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) was named the ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Fraser defeated a pair of top 50 opponents in singles as the ninth-ranked Cavaliers opened the season with 4-3 wins over No. 18 Tennessee and No. 21 Texas.

Fraser, ranked No. 29 nationally in singles, posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over No. 27 Brynn Boren of Tennessee on Saturday. The following day she had a 7-6, 6-2 win over No. 47 Aeriel Ellis of Texas as Cavaliers rallied from down 3-0 to defeat the Longhorns 4-3.

It is the second career ACC Player of the Week honor for Fraser, as she was recognized once last season.

Virginia will return to action on January 31 as it plays a pair of matches in Blacksburg. The Cavaliers play West Virginia at 10 a.m. before meeting Virginia Tech in their ACC opener at 4 p.m.
